I'm far from up on the latest movies. I hadn't heard of Zone of Interest until reading this piece. So I can't speak to the film but I plan on watching it soon. I do wonder in light of the subject matter why groups of people find it so hard to resolve issues where mostly, on a personal level are able to resolve things pretty regularly.

Maybe it's that groups of people can't experience a downtime from each other like I can with my neighbor. If something bugs me about someone on a bus, i can just wait out the trip. But with groups of people, they continue to exist next to each other for long periods of time.

Or it could be that I'm just misunderstanding how well we behave on the small scale. It might be there's just a lot more conflict resolving with violence than I'm admitting.

Jonathan Glazer asks one question ... how do we resist? And he asks that question in the light of ... Jewishness - refuting / repudiating (a rabbit hole imho) - dehumanization, Holocaust, October the 7th... his focus is on look what we do now. Where is the phantom of kindness now?
